Make Your Diamond Look Larger

Can’t afford that 3-carat huge diamond? Not to worry!

If your pocket doesn’t allow you to go in for those fascinating large diamonds you might want to consider these ideas to make your diamond ring look larger than it actually is:

Check out Fancy Diamond Shapes
The regular round diamonds often being the first choice owing to their brilliance can be done away with. Try fancy diamond shapes especially the elongated ones such as the Marquise, Pear, Princess or the Rectangular one. These give a larger appearance than the round brilliant cut.

Get Some Back-Up of Side Stones

Setting your diamonds amidst side stones doesn’t really make it look larger but increases the ring size. So the viewers have more of it to admire.

Try the Pave Setting:

In this setting tiny diamonds are set side by side at the level of the metal giving the diamonds a continuous look. This makes the diamond look lager because of the difficulty in distinguishing individual stones.

Sometimes intricate Pave Settings are more expensive than the actual larger diamond. So be careful about the amount you spend if you go in for this type of setting.

Select the Bezel Setting:

You can select a setting where the metal forms a rim and encloses the diamond within it at a little higher level, called the Bezel Setting. It makes the diamond look larger. White Gold and Platinum are the preferable metals to go with such setting as the yellow gold setting might give a yellow tint to the diamond.

Consider the Illusion/Invisible Setting:

In this setting the diamond is mounted on a mirror like plate which creates the illusion of the diamond being floating, making it look larger and more brilliant. These rings are delicate and expensive to repair. So care has to be taken if you are active with hands.

Choose the Shallow Cut:

A shallow cut diamond is cut wider than and not as deep as its counterparts. A shallow cut diamond looks larger than the ideally cut diamond of the same carat weight. When placed next to regular cut diamond it look less brilliant because the cut is such that doesn’t reflect light back to the top. But this can be a good option as your diamond ring is not likely to be placed against other diamonds for comparison.
